Navigating the world of feeding tools can be overwhelming. I’ve personally curated this list of my go-to products that I use and trust in my practice and with families just like yours. Each of these tools is chosen for its quality, functionality, and ability to support a positive feeding journey.
Essential Utensils

Self Feeding Spoons (their first spoon) I love to recommend these spoons for babies starting solids. I like to mash soft foods like avocado, banana, or moist rice right into the utensil. Then, I hand my baby the pre-loaded spoon and let them self-feed. It’s a great way for them to learn how to bring a utensil to their mouth without much food falling out!

Baby Spoons and Forks These utensils are a fantastic next step! The built-in stoppers are a game-changer because they prevent your baby from putting the utensil too far back in their mouth. This lets your little one practice intentional poking with the fork and scooping with the spoon, all while you have peace of mind.

Foundational Drinkware
These cups are key for developing healthy drinking skills from an early age.

Straw Cup (their first straw cup) This is my favorite first straw cup! With this cup, you can gently squeeze the bottle and push liquid into the straw to help your baby take their very first sips.

Open Cup (their first open cup) This is my favorite first open cup. Around 6 months, you can introduce open cup drinking, and this one is perfect. It’s made of soft silicone, so it’s okay for baby to bite, and it’s weighted at the bottom to help with stability and support your baby as they learn to hold it.
The Mealtime Setup
This section is for the larger items that create a comfortable and supportive feeding environment.

Floor Seat and Booster Seat This is an affordable and effective floor seat for starting solids. You can also strap it to your dining chair so your baby can join you during mealtime.

Toddler High Chair with Adjustable Footrest (18+ months) This high chair is an investment that is worth every penny. This chair literally grows with your child, and a grown adult can even sit in it! With the adjustable seat and footrest, your child will have a supportive chair throughout their entire childhood. Good seating is so important for eating!*
Preparing for Solids
This product can be a helpful tool even before your baby starts solids.

Teethers I like a couple of different teethers. These silicone fruit teethers are a must-have because they’re dense and give your baby different ways to chew. The long, stick-shaped teethers are also great because they are easy for babies to grasp and long enough for them to chew on their back gums. This skill of chewing is important to practice both before and during the introduction of solids. As a bonus, you can even squeeze some purée in the middle of a stick-shaped teether, freeze it, and give it to your baby for a tasty treat!
Oral Motor Tools to Support Therapy
This section is for tools that I often use in my practice to help build the foundational skills needed for confident eating, drinking, and speech.

TalkTools Sensi This is my go-to tool for helping babies and toddlers explore their oral cavity and build awareness. Its soft, vibrating tips feel gentle on gums and can help desensitize the mouth for new textures. It’s like a magic wand for oral-motor exploration!

Red Chewy Tube This is a great tool for beginners because it helps your child learn to imitate big, foundational chewing motions. It’s perfect for building initial jaw strength and developing the core stability needed for eating.

Yellow Chewy Tube This is a wonderful tool for more refined and defined chewing. It’s smaller than the red chewy tube, making it perfect for building precise chewing skills and targeting specific areas in the mouth.
